Zambia is a nation that faces enormous obstacles as it moves into the future. The face of poverty that can offend American sensitivities is their reality. Yet, their poverty is a relative state to ours. It is a nation where people do their best to look out for each other as the many uncles (those family members with jobs) of Zambia do their best to look out for their entire families. One year after some difficult growing seasons the American calls to help the starving children of Zambia became the topic of political debate. At one point the Agricultural minister got on radio and TV and challenged the nation to find one person who had died of starvation. None were found. The idea that Zambians would allow even their most unloved relative to die for lack of food is beyond their comprehension. One orphan who I watched survive for 7 years explained to me that he would just choose different houses in the compound to eat, he was never turned away. The tragedy of AIDS has left the nation with many orphans. Each family has had to rise to the occasion to shoulder the burden with or without outside help.
Each one of us who were involved with the making of the “James Tembo” film are living our lives of faith trusting that God will complete what He has started in our lives. To see some income reach Zambia through the selling of this film will be a blessing to all of us and our extended families. To dream of coming together again and making another film is something we can believe for. One way or another we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. We will see you then!
